New year resolutions don't work. Make new year plans

Make new year plans, not resolutions because resolutions don't work.

You can start late in the previous year or early in January of the new year, to plan for the new year you want to see. The key is to match your plans with actions and timelines to accomplish them... Treat your plans like a project. For a start, keep them simple. Create goals that are SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timebound. ☑️

How?

1. Be Specific about what you want to achieve in 2023. Example, 'to make enough money to buy a car in 2023' is more specific than saying 'to make money'. Tie the action to a particular item or activity.

2. Measurable means that you can count the achievements and be able to check after some time (like months or weeks), how far you have come and how well or badly you are doing. For instance, planning to raise up to N3,000,000.00 buy ONE car (you can specify the model)  in 2023, is measurable.

3. Achievable is similar to Realistic. It's reminding us not to be too ambitious; to be able to take small steps that can help you get to where you are going, accomplish that and move to the next step. To try not to bite more than you can chew.  Break the steps that lead to your goal into smaller steps if you have to. That's making it Achievable. To pay in instalments, or save up a particular amount for your car monthly, can make your goal achievable.

4. You are being Realistic when you plan to save up some money for your car over time, in 2023. You're not being realistic when you live beyond your means or spend a lot from your earnings. Save. Be disciplined. Sacrifice some luxury and comfort. Keep your eyes on the ball. You can get a loan to make up for what you currently earn. Plan to pay back too. You can also take up an extra job.

5. Set a target. You can give yourself a time frame of 6 months to one year. For instance, planning to raise up to N3,000,000.00 to buy ONE car by December 2023, is not just Timebound. It a statement that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timebound. SMART. However, if you find out that you cannot realize this in one year, you can plan to achieve it by 2024, or 2025, etc., depending on what works for you.

SO GET TO WORK ON YOUR GOAL OR GOALS FOR 2023!

Thank me later ☺️

Before you buy that Valentine's gift, read this

Ever had the experience of spending weeks or even months preparing for Valentine’s Day and buying what you felt was the perfect gift, and as the days build up to that romantic and sensual moment, BAM! Something happens and you break up. The gifts are either stuck with you or you hate yourself for gifting them out in the first place to someone you would now call an asshole? The season of love is here again, a time for sharing, exchanging gifts and most definitely spending. Have you ever noticed that a lot of time and money goes into planning to get our loved one(s) and partner(s) the best Valentine’s Day gifts, and that many-a-time, we end up buying the wrong gifts or indulging in irrelevant spending?  Valentine’s Day is expensive and millennials are the biggest spenders, followed by the generation before them.

Are You Employable?

Not everyone is under lockdown and not every economy has been badly affected by the global crissi.  While  some establishments  have plummeted,   others have either sprung up or rebranded . There are still Organizations out there looking for new skills and a diverse workforce. If you are not employable today, don’t expect to get a new job. If your skills are not relevant to the needs of today, you may not be considered relevant. It’s a hard and harsh fact but we need to tell ourselves the truth. Call me the TOUGH LOVE sister  😊  if you may. WE need to take our job security or cash inflow into our own hands. In today’s uncertain times of massive pay cuts and job losses, we can’t help but learn new skills or dust old ones. Many have come to grapple with the reality of putting aside skills and experiences which may have made them champions or the best staff of the year before the pandemic. Having found their titles, degrees, certificates and skill sets becoming increasingly irrelevant to

When mash ups and new ideas mean big business - Square buys J-Z's music streaming app

What's a financial services company (Square) got to do with a music streaming app (Tidal)? Plenty. “New ideas are found at intersections, and we believe there’s a compelling one between music and the economy,” said Twitter's Jack Dorsey, on the 4th of March 2021, as Square buys Tidal for $297 million. “Making the economy work for artists is similar to what Square has done for sellers,” Jack tweeted.
